In the United States, Employer Intermediaries play an essential role of building bridges between talent and industry, providing the necessary capacity and subject matter expertise to design, implement, and scale work-based learning opportunities. While work-based learning is a proven lever for economic mobility, sustainable funding remains a significant barrier to scale. Grounded in the functions articulated in the Framework for Effective Employer Intermediaries report, this interactive session will engage funders and practitioners in a conversation to: develop an initial perspective on employers’, government’s, and philanthropies' willingness to pay; discuss where public funds would be most beneficial; and workshop what realistic public accountability metrics could look like.

During this session you will: 

• Use a practical framework to inform an intermediaries' ability to meet employer needs
• Collectively develop a perspective on which employer intermediary functions are currently self-sustained by employers, which are best suited for a ‘fee-for-service’ model paid by employers, and which are most likely to require public or philanthropic investment to be sustained
• Propose realistic accountability metrics that align with performance-based trends for public funding
